The Burgwies depot is the oldest surviving tram depot in the city of Zurich. Used by the VBZ until 1997, it is still fully operational today. Over 1600m2 of exhibition space is dedicated to the Zurich tram and its history.

Discover tram history

Ever since the first Rösslitram rolled through Zurich’s streets in 1882, the tram has been part of the cityscape. The eventful history of Zurich’s trams began at a time of rapid technical and social change. A visit to the Tram Museum is also a journey of discovery into the past of the city of Zurich since industrialisation.

The permanent exhibition

The permanent exhibition on the history and significance of local public transport shows original vehicles from 1897 to the present day.
